In collaboration with Nano Scale Surface Systems, Husky Injection Molding Systems has introduced an injection molding system for disposable medical applications that generates a barrier layer of silica inside the medical material. The processed articles exhibit glass-like properties, have a barrier layer that prevents gas transmission, and prevent chemical reactions between fluids and plastic products.
Products processed on the Husky system can replace many disposable medical products that are currently made of glass, including test tubes and blood bottles, reducing the risk of damage and injury.
According to Datamonitor's forecast, the global disposable medical products market is estimated to have a value of close to 170 billion U.S. dollars. At the same time, Freedonia predicts that the United States alone has a value of over 60 billion U.S. dollars and an annual growth rate of 5.6%.
Husky will participate in the American West Plastics Fair held in Anaheim, California on February 13, 2007, and will present its production of silica-coated products.
